What Is the Fit Kids Bill?

What Is the Fit Kids Bill?
A SUMMARY of the FIT KIDS BILL: to be reintroduced in to the new Congress, SUMMER 2013

The FIT Kids Act is a first step in providing comprehensive Physical Education giving all children the opportunity to learn healthy habits and get moving.

THE FIT Kids BILL requires that:

1. School Districts receiving existing school improvement funds, make available to the families that they serve, information on the type of physical education being provided to students in each grade, and to report to the state, data on the amount of required Physical Education time for students at all grade levels.

2. School Districts provide information to families on the importance of living healthy and active lifestyles, and existing school programs and policies that promote these lifestyles.

3. Support professional development for health and physical education teachers, and principals, to boost student's ability to learn.

4. A study be enacted by the National Research Council to determine the best way to incorporate physical activity in to the school day, and to study the relationship between physical education/physical activity, and academic achievement and learning.
