There are men and women in prison who find their mate through letters. I say hooray.
I was watching the story about Gypsy Rose she got married to a school teacher but it didn’t last long. They divorced and she started dating a man she met many years ago. I hope she finds happiness.
Many couples renew their vows. My brother and his wife renewed their vows.
I have been to many weddings. I will tell you about two of them. One was a Jewish wedding …they get married under a chuppah which is a canopy sometimes covered in flowers. A Rabbi conducts the wedding. Some grooms wear a Yamaka which is a little round cap that they wear on their head.
After the ceremony the groom smashes a wine glass that is wrapped around a napkin. The people that attend say Mazel Tov. Which means good luck….After the ceremony the bride and groom sit in chairs and many men lift them up in the air and they dance. I said to myself. I hope they will drop them. lol.
Then the dancing begins …it is a dance they do in Fiddler on the Roof.. they hold hands and dance around the bride and groom. Now let’s talk about the meal. Someone cuts the Challah bread which is an egg bread. Then there is kugel which is a noodle casserole, chicken fish and vegetables.
But my favorite would have to be the Italian wedding. The brides usually have high hair. It can be performed by a priest. Oh do these women like eye lashes. Sometimes when the bride sweats while dancing those lashes start to creep off. They served Veal Parmigiana. Eggplant Parmigiana. Meatballs, and spaghetti, then they bring a plate of cannoli out. They are tube shaped shells made with pastry dough filled with ricotta cheese chocolate chips and ground pistachios. These originate in Sicily. I ate two of them …ok three.
You know what is so pretty the first dance of the bride and groom. Everyone gets in a big circle while a slow song is played. We will get to that later. At the end of the dance there is the dip. The groom slightly leans the bride towards the floor. Sometimes the groom dips them way too close to the floor then the bride falls and you hear a large sigh.
After their dance they begin dancing with other people who attend the wedding. After the first dance they both begin dancing with their guests. They dance with children they dance with seniors it is all so heartwarming.
Before dinner is served the bride and groom sits at a long table with their groomsmen and the bridesmaids. The champagne starts flowing. The people at the table stand and toast the bride and the groom. Some of the speeches they say are funny others are not laughable.
As they are drinking many people toasting get…get… get…drunk. They begin slurring their words and you cannot understand anything that they say. I have been to weddings that people got so drunk they passed out. Drooling is not pretty.
Ring…ring…ring…we must discuss the wedding rings. Men choose a yellow or white gold band. Sometimes these rings are made of titanium, tungsten…a rare metal or platinum.
Some women choose diamonds like Paris Hilton . Her ring is a 22 carat diamond. …how does she lift her hand will you tell me. Mariah Carey was engaged to a very wealthy man who gave her a 35 carat emerald. They never got married. I wonder what ever happened to that ring?
Princess Diana wore an 18 carat sapphire surrounded by perfectly cut diamonds. Princess Kate now wears this ring . People who can’t afford the cost of these rings go to a pawn shop or a local jewelry store. It is not about the size of the ring…it is about the love behind the rings.
To be continued…
Love,
Richard
