Part 4
When it was time to go to bed, I walked Shirley into her room. I could tell she was a bit exhausted. She changed into her pajamas. I pulled her bedspread down and fluffed her pillow.
I would kneel at the edge of the bed and rub her feet and her legs. Then I moved over to the side of her and rubbed her forehead while I sang her a song. Within a few minutes she would start snoring. lol When she got up I ordered breakfast for us and she asked me “ honey did I snore?”… And I said….no.
That day we would get on the plane to visit another city. Shirley was not a good flyer. I would watch her grip the seat handles. The stewardess came over to ask her if she was ok. The stewardess said “I think I can make you feel better.“ She brought my mom a glass of Bailey’s Irish crème .
She said to me “I don’t know what this is but it tastes like a little milkshake.” She asked the stewardess to bring another one. Within 15 minutes she was fast asleep. When the plane landed I woke her up and we walked off the plane together.
As the video got more popular we were invited to do many national shows …including Ms Oprah. Newspapers came out and did interviews with all of them. When it was all over I took Shirley home to New Orleans.
“I had such a great time when are we going to do this again?”. From the video, Shirley and I got a Citibank commercial. She talked about the presents I should buy her. Then the camera pulled out and Shirley was on a stationary bike. I kept saying “go faster go faster.”
At the beginning of one of my videos, they told me that somebody was making illegal copies of them. We went into a facility and there was my mom making copies of my videos. I said “Mom what are you doing?” She said she was making videos for a few of her friends.
The police took her out to their car and handcuffed her. Then pushed her into the backseat of their car. She said “Sweetie I would never make copies of your video.” Then she winked.
Not a day goes by that somebody doesn’t write me about this workout. I wonder why nobody created this workout before. When you get older it is so important to move. They did a sequel… I was not in it and I don’t think it did very well.
I would call Shirley several times a day to see how she was doing. I think I drove her a little crazy. She would say “Honey you just called me a half hour ago. How do you think I am doing?”
When I went back to New Orleans and took her and my brother to dinner, people would come to the table and say hello. When I looked at her one evening, she said, “you made me a star.” Then I replied “you have always been a star to me.”
As I sit here writing this, I realize that I am now …a silver fox.
Love,
Richard
