I lived in New York for a very short time like a I told you before. I bought a ticket to see a show called Dames at Sea starring Bernadette Peters. Ms P had skin like porcelain and a beautiful face and body.

When she began singing, I wondered how that big voice came out of her tiny body. I knew that I was watching the makings of a Broadway star. Years later, I saw Sunday in the Park with George. This musical was very emotional. I sat in the theater with tears rolling down my face. The lady next to me took two Kleenexes out of her purse and gave them to me. Then she said, “Richard it is only a play.”

When I did press in New York I would occasionally run into Ms P. And you know what…she was ageless. She travels and sings with a full orchestra. I know she wows everyone.

I saw Dreamgirls with Jennifer Holiday. When she sang And I am Telling You I’m Not Going, everyone stopped breathing for a moment. I did go backstage…but there were so many people back there to see her. I just waved and smiled.

Ms Holiday is still singing and her fans adore her. When they did the movie Dreamgirls Jennifer Hudson won an Academy award for her portrayal of Effie. Ms Hudson has her own talk show and is still singing her heart out.

I saw Evita with Patty LuPone. She is the queen of Broadway. When she sang Don’t Cry for Me Argentina. It brought back memories of me going to Argentina seeing the balcony where she greeted her public. I wish Ms L would have done the movie but they gave the role to Madonna. Whoa …I have to say it was very powerful.

I saw Cats …it was about singing cats. The make up was incredible. Betty Buckley sang Memories. What a voice. Other singers tried their hand at that song but Ms Buckley owned it. I felt a little itchy when a I went outside. lol.

I didn’t really know what this musical was about. It was called Rent… Starring Idina Menzel. My two favorite songs were Seasons of Love and Light my Candle. I sat in the third row with a couple sitting to my left. They told me that their son died of AIDS and left them tickets to see the show. The three of us cried many tears. During one song the lady put her head on my shoulder and wrapped her arm around my arm. ….to be continued…

Love,

Richard
