Pitti Pat, a liver spotted Dalmatian, suffered from a serious skin disorder. Dr Shipp gave me a cream and I rubbed her skin with it every night. Miraculously her skin got better.
I wanted more…I know what you are thinking. Richard is absolutely out of his mind. I hired another stud and Marty got pregnant. I named her puppies Hattie and Dolly.
I guess you know by now all of my dogs are named after the characters in Gone With the Wind….my favorite movie.
Please don’t judge me…but all of my girls slept on my bed with me. People had given me Dalmatian blankets and I would cover my bed and they all would jump in. A few of them snored ….it was music to my ears. Sometimes I would put my light on dim and watch them sleep away.
Then I started to hear from every Dalmatian owner in the country. I got Dalmatian quilts….needlepoints…statues….I dedicated a room in my house for all the gifts.
Two of the male Dalmatians I sent to my mom. Their names were Rhett and Brent. They were my mom’s third and fourth children. Sometimes I would catch her feeding them pieces of food from her plate. She thought nobody saw her.
As we know, pets don’t last forever. My friend Colleen G. sent me a book called The Rainbow Bridge. It is about dogs who went to heaven. Every time one of my babies passed away I would take out that book.
The house seemed quiet. They would all run in a pack. My bed was empty. The stairs they used to run up were silent. Some nights I would cry myself to sleep. My last dog, Hattie, passed away at 17.
I had them all cremated. I bought very ornate boxes to put them in…..and even created a dog park on the side of my house. Also I had each dog’s name etched in granite with tulip shaped lights over each of their names. I could not put them in the ground. I keep their ashes in my office. I don’t look at them often because I can’t stop the tears from flowing.
People would tell me, “I will buy you another Dalmatian.” But my heart could not handle that. I decided I would not have anymore dogs.
I have pictures of them all over my house. I can’t tell you how I miss them. It is like someone shot me in my heart.
One of my neighbors has a Dalmatian. He walks the dog by my house and I watch them from my dining room window.
So what pets do I have now? I have six hummingbird feeders…Two bird feeders…my favorite bird is the blue bird. I sprinkle roasted peanuts on my back patio. I have three squirrels named Do…Re… Mi…two skunks named Salt and Pepper…a black crow named Velvet …and one of my neighbor’s cats comes to say hello.
Do you have a pet or pets ? Hug on them for me.
