When you did all of these shows they took you to the dressing room. It was a very simple room. A couch…a couple chairs and a coffee table. And on this coffee table there were treats. Finger sandwiches, a bowl of malted milk balls, a bowl of miniature candy bars, and a bowl with an apple and banana in it.
All those temptations right in front of me. A devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other. I chose the apple while looking at the candy. Lol.
Next stop, The Martha Stewart Show. She was a little serious at first. This lady is so talented I think she has butter and pastry cream in her veins. lol. She took a bunch of celery cut the bottom and then placed it in red ink. She then pressed it on a piece of paper and it looked like a red rose.
Later in the show I took two carrots and placed it on my head like horns.. She looked at me and said “Richard can you behave.”
I did the Phil Donahue Show. I think I was way too bubbly for him. He did not smile once. I think I was too much for him.
Another man who did not smile was Charlie Rose. He didn’t stare at you he stared through you.
One lady I really cared for was Wendy How ya doin Williams. One time I did her show… I was in my dressing room singing. All of a sudden someone was pounding on my door. I opened it to find a man who looked like a bodyguard. He said “Nicki Minaj is putting on her make up and you are disturbing her”….he said “shut up.” As Steve Martin would say… Well….excuse me….
I did Ms W’s show a few times. When she left her own show I got very worried. I watched the special on Wendy on Lifetime. From that day on I added her to my prayer list.
Rosie O’Donnell… she can sing, she can dance, she can act, and now she had an extremely popular daytime show. The first time I did her show I was promoting my low calorie dessert book called Sweetie Pie. Her other guest was Celine Dion. I said to myself…”Are you kidding me?”…she was right there tasting one of my desserts. While we were talking I bent my knees and scooped her up in my arms. Put me down Richard and we all had a chuckle.
Years later I was invited to see Ms Dion in Las Vegas. Ms Dion’s assistant was so nice to me and told me that she was getting married. I asked her for her address and sent her a vintage wedding bag encrusted in baby pearls.
I had a very nice seat at the concert. In the same row was Ms D’s husband Rene Angelil . A very distinguished looking man.
After the show I went and bought myself a bottle of water and standing next to me was Mr. A. I shook his hand and said wow what a show. Sad to say Mr A passed away. Now he is in heaven listening to his wife singing.
Ms D is also going through some medical problems but each day she is growing stronger. To be continued…
