Until 2000 BC, humans told time by looking at the sun. Can you imagine? Everyone back then must have had migraine headaches lol.
The Egyptians, Greeks and the Romans created the sundial. They also invented the water-clocks. Then there was a massive monument called the obelisk.
In the 1600s the pilgrims told time with bell towers. Don’t you just love history! In 1656 Christiaan Huygens came up with the Pendulum clock. Then some guy in Europe came up with the spring watch.
There are so many famous songs with the word time in the title. Time after time….Time Passages…Time is On My Side Yes It Is…and my personal favorite If I Could Turn Back Time. Would you like to turn back the time?
Tick tock….tick…tock…I learned how to tell time with my dad. He had a watch with a champagne face and light brown leather straps. I was mesmerized by that little second hand. My favorite time was 8 am…breakfast,12 pm…lunch and 6 pm…dinner. lol. When I went to school there was a clock in the back of the classroom. I kept looking at the clock so it could be 3:00 and I could go home. My teacher would say are you afraid of hurting your neck?
Do you remember your first watch? I don’t. I didn’t like to wear watches. I would ask people. Do you really know what time it is…do you really care. I don’t ever remember my mom wearing a watch.
When I was a kid I went to someone’s house and there was a grandfather clock in their foyer. I was intrigued by those moving pendulums. As a gift one year a friend of mine gave me a cuckoo clock.
I had seen very large cuckoo clocks in Switzerland and Germany. Everyone gathered at the square at noon.
When I got my cuckoo clock, I put it on the wall..it was made of carved wood. Every couple of hours this little yellow bird peeked out from the door and cuckood One of the neighbors came over and said how beautiful this clock was.. I took it off the wall and gave it to them. Let the little yellow bird drive them crazy.
To be continued…
